Our School Plan Progress 2019-2020

Improving Student Learning

The Abbotsford School District’s Strategic Plan reflects our public commitment to BC’s new curriculum by working together to continuously improve learning for each student.

School Goals

Under the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning, all Abbotsford School District schools are required to develop a long term plan to improve student achievement, one that maintains a balance on the intellectual, social and career development of students. Each year, each school develops an annual plan and sets individual goals to improve student achievement.

Jackson School Goals

The Vision for Student Learning is a plan for "adult actions".  It was developed over several collaborative staff meetings.    We now challenge ourselves to find ways to embrace our vision so students are succeeding in all aspects of their school experience.

Intellectual

Our students will learn key academic skills - like reading, writing and math - to encompass the knowledge and processes associated with intellectual development. As learners and meaning-makers, students take subject-specific concepts and content and transform them into a new understanding.

Human & Social

Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Our celebrations of learning

The Jackson "High 5" are character attributes students are recognized for on a daily and monthly basis.  When students demontrate they are using the attributes, they can be recognized with a blue "High 5" slip as a form of recognition.  Students can then take these slips and put them in a draw box for our end of the month "Terrific Kids" assembly.  Students will then be drawn out of their classroom draw box and be given different  types of prizes.

At Jackson, we have a school song we sing on a weekly basis and also at most assemblies.  Students also use sign language when singing the song.  It joins us to have one common purpose!

Every month, we recognize students for being "Terrific Kids".  Teachers choose students who are showing the chosen attribute for the month.  We discuss the attirube at our monthly assembly and try to promote these charactaristics throughout the month.

At Jackson, we felt a Breakfast Program would give students an essential tool to improve their school success.  We have connected with your community to provide a 5 day a week breakfast program for our students.  Abbotsford Chrysler Dodge Jeep, Fraser Valley Auto Pro, Central Heights Church, and our Youth Care Worker all contribute to making and serving the breakfast.  All students are welcomed with (depending on the day) pancakes, bacon, sausage, egg breakfast sandwhich, cereal, yogurt and granola bars.

Careers

Our students will succeed in a much different future from the one we envisioned 10 or 15 years ago. It is our responsibility to prepare all children for success in whatever life path they choose, connecting learning opportunities with future career possibilities. We know that real-life experiences - like community involvement, gaining business knowledge, and hands-on-learning - build better students and life-long citizens.
