October 2023 News

October 12, 2023

Thank you for parking along the road, or in the front parking lot before and after
school. Please remember the back parking lot is ONLY for staff parking, not dropping
off or picking up students.

We would like to welcome Mr. Gordon Poole, our new teacher for Division 4. He begins
Friday, October 6th . We would also like to thank Mrs. Leanne Gray for starting the
classroom and teaching them routines, expectations and engaging lessons.

Student birthdays are acknowledged from the office with a certificate and pencil. Some
teachers may also have a small item for students. Unfortunately, we are not able to
celebrate class parties for birthdays as we have many diverse allergies. Families are
welcome to send in a very small item, eg. Pencils, erasers, pencil toppers, for a child's
birthday, but food items are not permitted.

Thank you for visiting us during "Meet the Teacher Night". We look forward to
seeing everyone during Parent-Teacher Conferences on October 18 and 19. Teachers
are setting up their schedules, so please connect with your child's teacher for further
information.

Early dismissal will be at 11:56 on October 18 and October 19. Evening appointments
are available from 4-7pm on October 19.

It was great to see families supporting the children running for Terry Fox. We raised
$209.15 for Cancer Research! Well done, Jackson!

It was also wonderful to see so many Orange Shirts last week. Teachers taught
developmentally appropriate lessons about the reasons why we wear Orange on that
day.

•October is full of our Emergency Drill practices. Students will be coming home and
sharing how well they did with evacuation and other drills.

Our PAC has already been busy planning fun activities for all our students and families.
Please check out School Cash Online to order Pizza and Popcorn this month. We will
also be having a Pumpkin fundraiser. More information will be coming from the PAC.
Hallowe'en costumes will be welcome on October 31st for our Hallowe'en Howl at
10:00. We will move around the school to music outside. The gates of our parking lot
will be closed to ensure student safety. Families are welcome to participate. Please only
take photos of your child as we have many who do not given permission for their
child's photo to be taken. Children will be welcome to change out of their costume at
recess and carry on with the rest of their day. Feel free to send a change of clothes so
your child is comfortable.
Gory/scary costumes will not be permitted. Please keep weapons, blood, etc. at home.
Many classrooms are having a Pajama Day on November 1st. Please check with your
classroom teacher. It's a fun way to learn, especially the day after Hallowe'en.

We would sincerely like to thank our PAC for the delicious treats and coffee on
World Teacher Day! We certainly felt appreciated and are grateful for such a
supportive community.
