New Year's Reminders!

January 7, 2021

Happy New Year!

We hope that you had a healthy and relaxing holiday. It was one that was different for all of us, but we hope that you were able to make some wonderful memories as a family! We are excited to welcome everyone back to school for the second half of the school year – it is 2021!

This week is a quiet one and will be used to review expectations with students and return to a school routine. We would also like to remind all our families of some routines and procedures to continue to keep everyone healthy and safe! If we all work together we will be able to keep the Jackson community healthy!

Staggered Start/End & Playgrounds

Our staggered start and end to the day are meant to support physical distancing and reduce crowding around the school. Students can arrive at school anytime from 8:30-8:50 and will go directly to their “outside doors”. Please note, there is no supervision provided prior to this time. Students arriving after 8:50 must check in at the office for a late slip.

Staggered dismissal is from 2:15-2:30. Students will be dismissed before 2:30 if there is a parent or other responsible adult outside the class waiting. If you choose to wait in your car, either in the parking lot or at another predetermined location, students will be dismissed at 2:30.

Both playgrounds REMAIN CLOSED before and after school. Families are welcome to return to school after 3:30 to play if they choose.

Thank you for all working together with us to keep everyone safe!

Sick Students

Please continue to keep your children home if they are sick – especially if they are showing any symptoms of Covid-19. Please ensure you are checking your child daily for any symptoms before sending them to school.

A list of symptoms can be found at https://www.abbyschools.ca/sites/default/files/Daily%20Health%20Assessment%20Checklist%20-%20Student%20-%202020.pdf

Please note, that arrangements will be made for any students who become sick throughout the day to be picked up. Please ensure there is someone available to pick up your child should they fall ill.

Please report all student absences using the Safe Arrival program or by calling the school office. Information for Safe Arrival can be found at https://www.abbyschools.ca/safe-arrival

Mask Wearing

While the rules have not changed regarding elementary students and mask wearing, it is safe to say that if we all look around it is rare to not see people in masks. All students are encouraged to always have a mask at school.

We have some classes that have developed a culture of mask wearing – and even our littlest learners have been amazing! If you hear your child talking about this, please engage in discussions with them around why their class has decided it is important. Kids get it – and can give amazing answers! There are even awards and draws happening to add some fun to this endeavour!

The Kids are Watching!!!

It is easy in the hustle of the day to get into our own groove and forget the rules of a pandemic world. This is a gentle reminder to all parents that the kids are watching you…always! Our request of you is to be a role model for our students…

Maintain 2m between you and others who are not in your immediate household – this might mean waiting a bit further from the classroom door than normal – and that is OK!
Wear a mask when entering the school or anytime you cannot maintain a space of 2m between you and others.
Do not leave your car if you are sick – please drop off at the front of the school. Also, if you have been asked to self-isolate by Fraser Health, please do not come to the school.
When entering the school, please sanitize, and complete the Health Check outside the office.

Thank you for helping our kids do what is right by doing it yourself!
